Artist Statement-Photography is a unique means of expression. An artist’s photographs reflect the intersection of the artist’s vision and the physical world. I am drawn to this paradox of engagement with the world and distance that happens when I pick up my camera. When I began taking pictures, I was primarily interested in photographing people. In the last several years, I’ve expanded my work into landscape photography. The landscape contains an emotional resonance that is deeply impactful. I’ve often thought that the camera can’t capture the beauty of a natural scene as fully the human eye can. My job as an artist is to bring my own perspective to the raw material of the natural world and make something new. This dynamic is the core of my work.
